Lady Amherst

Lady Amherst Pheasant is native to southwestern China and average in size. The male produces long speckled tails and beautiful black and white tippet feathers that are perfect for wings, tails and hackles for Intruder type flies. Tidbit The pheasant was named after Sara Countess Amherst, who was the wife of the Governor General of Bengal, William Pitt Amherst, back in 1828. I imagine that it was not too long afterwards that feathers from the Amherst pheasant made their way into the tying scene.
